What is OG?
Orton-Gillingham (OG) is the grandfather of multisensory structured language programs. It has been proven to be effective for more than 80 years. While other phonics and basal programs may impact decoding skills, they are not well structured to support spelling. OG recognizes that reading and spelling are interrelated and works to connect reading, spelling, writing and oral language.
Based on best teaching practices, OG provides a structured and sequential format moving from concrete to abstract and from simple to complex. There is sufficient repetition to achieve automation and considerable scaffolding techniques to support students at any level. These characteristics make the Orton-Gillingham method applicable to ALL students including those with dyslexia and English Language Learners as well as ALL subjects- science , math, social studies, etc.
